What to expect on the day of your procedure at Wilmington GI

  • You will arrive and check in with the receptionist before being escorted to the pre-procedure assessment area to review medical history and start an IV.
  • When receiving sedation, you will need to have a driver who is required to stay at the office for the entire duration of your visit. Your driver will be asked to remain in the waiting room during your procedure, but may join you in the recovery area after your procedure is completed.
  • You will meet the nurse anesthetist performing your sedation before being taken to the endoscopy room. Your doctor will speak to you in the endoscopy room prior to receiving sedation.
  • After completion of your procedure you will be moved to the recovery area. The physician will speak to you (and your driver if desired) regarding the findings of your procedure prior to discharge. Discharge instructions will be provided by your recovery nurse.
  • It may take up to 1-2 weeks to receive the results of any biopsies taken during your procedure. We will contact you with these results.
  • On average, the total time spent in our office on the day of your procedure will be 2-3 hours. This includes wait time, pre-procedure assessment, procedural time, and recovery.
